STUDENT LMS CONCEPT
*Concept Design of Gamified LMS Interface for better learning in children
Role: UI/UX Designer
Team: XandY Learning
Date: 2026-06-27
Stack Used: Figma, User Research, User Interviews
01. Understanding the Problem
The existing XandY Student LMS offered students access to video lessons, practice questions, and exams, but its rigid navigation, broken search, and cumbersome mobile experience made daily learning feel frustrating and disengaging. The challenge was to create a more intuitive learning environment that students could use consistently without unnecessary friction.
02. Researching Student Behaviour
I conducted interviews with students and mentors, gathered 565 student survey responses, and studied platforms such as Duolingo and Khan Academy to understand learning habits, frustrations, and motivational needs. The research revealed that what students described as a “boring” experience was often the result of deeper usability issues, highlighting the need to improve both functionality and engagement.
03. Defining a Balanced Gamification Strategy
The project explored how gamification could encourage learning without becoming distracting or overstimulating. Through research into motivational psychology and competing learning platforms, I developed a strategy centred on subtle rewards, meaningful progress indicators, and gentle nudges that encourage students to begin and complete tasks while keeping learning itself at the centre.
*more about gamiification will be written in detail soon.
04. Restructuring the Learning Experience
I mapped the existing user flows and developed a new information architecture focused on easier navigation, functional search, and quicker access to lessons, schedules, practice, and exams. I then created low-fidelity wireframes and an interactive prototype to explore the core experience, using rapid iteration to evaluate the structure before committing to a final visual direction.
05. Evolving the Concept
What began as an internal XandY Learning project has grown into a broader exploration of how LMS platforms can make learning engaging without overwhelming students. The project has reached the low-fidelity prototyping stage, while the final UI, visual system, and implementation of the proposed gamification concepts remain in progress.
*the broader exploration will be covered as a separate project later on.
